: I am ready to start an e-zine.
: How much can I charge for advertising?
Mark, right now when you starting don't even think about charging for ads - unless you are starting with unusually
high number of subscribers n excess of 500. Nothing ruins your reputation faster than selling something of low-no
value and advertising in low circulation e-zine falls into that category.
There are of course exceptions - if you have lower number of highly targeted subscribers, this might be worth to
some advertisers. Indeed some of the best and mos expensive mailing lists in the country have no more than several
hundreds names. But those are rare exceptions. Usually people who pay for ads, expect as high rate of response
as possible and at the beginning stages you would count on miracles and ruin your reputation in the process instead
of building it.
Once you build you list - the ad cost will vare. Again it will depend on the qulity and freshness of you e-zine.
if it will be always fresh material, and well written is one scenario. Reprints of other authors circulating in
many other newsletters - another. In any case you will be able to collect $10-$100 per 3 lines ad, depending on
the quality of your publication and the quality of your list.
My advice?
Concentrate on making a good quality e-zine first.
Once you get a good e-zine youur readership will grow - and then naturally you will be able to sell ads.
