: There is so many sites that are telling how to make a living on the net. Many of them repeat
: the same information without offering anything originals - reprintinng the same articles
: written by others and offering some services products that they have interest in. The problem
: is how to figure out which information to follow and which is hype.

: For example virually everybody is pushing traffic and engine positioning, e-zines and some kind
: of "How to" book or manual. How do I know what works and what is hype?

: thanks in advance
Mike: By asking a question here, you're showing that you need help. Believe me, you'll find it.

The Internet is made up of many smaller communities, and you will do well to get involved with at least two or three of them: message boards, newsgroups, etc.

Whether on TV or radio, in the printed media, or your own community, you find lots of hype about making money while sitting in a hot tub on your deck, sipping wine with one hand and holding the latest cell phone to your ear with the other. It's appealing, but not the way real life works.

In your life, you have people you trust and respect. It's generally from people like this that you buy services and products. It's the same on the Internet.

Those of us with businesses on the Web need to establish our credentials. It takes time and lots of observation. As in any other community, learn to give first. Maybe you don't have anything to give, you say? How about e-mailing someone to thank them for their article or Web site, etc.?

Anyone can create false identities on the Web. But if the people who make offers give references, belong to respected organizations, you can begin to find out about them. Finding out what is hype and what is solid isn't easy, but it is a great adventure!
: Mike
