Hi Mike,
I'm just an itty bitty "small potatoes" marketer, last month I made an extra 8400 in my spare time on the internet. Nothing to brag about, but it keeps me on the golf course.
Now what I like about Wanda is her devotion to RELATIONSHIP marketing. And her continuous and fearless effort to confront the "good ol boy" BS slinging marketers that have come on-line.
Everytime I see her say "OUCH", I get a big grin. She says that when the BS manipulators start revealing their "inside" secrets.
There are lots of marketing sites HYPING, and you picked the right word, all those things you mention. Most wanting you to part with YOUR money.
The truth, and this is my opinion, I've found after almost 5 years in Cyberspace, I now have to qualify everything, walk on egg shells when voicing an opinion, but anyhow,
IN MY OPINION, what works ON-LINE is the same thing that works OFF-LINE, and as Wanda calls it, a RELATIONSHIP.
The days of manipulation, HIGH PRESSURE, arm twisting, tire them out, the "this and that" close, all the 'dirty little tricks' of plaid jacketed used car salesmen (or full page direct marketers) is a thing of the past.
If you want to be successful on the Net, and Mike only you get to define that, most of my marketing friends scoff and laugh at my "small potatoes" little operation, but then I don't get to see them on the golf course every day either, they have to "take care of business".
Whatever.
Set your goals, same as in the real world. Find models that suit you. Ones that match your style and goals. Watch where you walk, there is INDEED some BS in these green pastures of the net.
And look for a way to build RELATIONSHIPS with people who would like to access your personal and unique knowledge, or the products or services YOU have chosen to market, because YOU like them, you use them, you believe in them, and you want to share that with others.
You will find my friend, that when all is said and done, when the BIG DOGS of the Internet have treed all the possums and racoons, and milked them for every last dime, and find themselves without a forest to run in,
then, you will see people with integrity, like Wanda, who have developed RELATIONSHIPS with people, because she is more interested in the long term, than in the short quick gain,
those are the people you will see left standing tall on the Internet, while the "gurus" lay on the beach smoking cigars and telling tall tales about all the "suckers" they have skinned, to the few who will listen.
Mike, start thinking LONG TERM and RELATIONSHIPS, and look for good role models to emulate.
There are plenty of Hound Dogs you could run with, but why smell of skunk?
But again, that is just my opinion.
Good luck to you.
Gordon
