Hi Julie,
Ever since that... ahem... "Close personal friend" began helping me over the hump a while back, I've dabblled in the Mind Mapping thing a time or two myself.
The results?? Staggering!!!
For anyone who does'nt know what mind mapping is, I'll try and give a brief explanation here.
You see, when we try and put ideas on paper, we tend to do it in a linear fashion. We write a list. The problem with listing things is - that's not how the human mind works!
Our brains collect and process information in tiny chunks as a result of hundreds, even thousands of different stimuli all at the same time. This info is stored and then retrieved to form a thought or idea.
So with mind mapping, draw a circle in the center of a sheet of paper and write the most basic form of your idea in that circle. Then as you think of new things related to your idea, place these things into their own circles around the originial circle.
Now for each of the new ideas, as you think of more things related to those, write in more circles with lines connecting all the relevant thoughts.
You will not believe how efficient and thought provoking this process is until you try it for yourself. Your thoughts and how the relate to one another are actually mapped out right before your eyes!
All you have to do afterwards is organize all your connected thoughts or ideas into a list or tree format and you have a plan!
Well Julie, I know you're an expert at the mind mapping thing so if you have anything to add to this, please do! ;-)
